We all know the benefits of Botox, but are you aware there are certain activities you should be avoiding post treatment? Things can get tricky when it comes to the next hour, day and even week. From exercise, to taking ibuprofen, to having that evening glass of wine, just how big is that grey area? As one of the leading Med Spas in the country, we’ve been asked virtually any and every question you can imagine. So keep reading to see a list of our most commonly asked questions and answers!
How long until I can exercise?
You should wait at least four to six hours before participating in any exercise inducing a lot of sweating. Botox needs time to settle for proper results, and strenuous exercise is not recommended. Your best bet is to just relax for 24 hours while avoiding contact with the injection site. However, facial exercise in the area of treatment IS recommended (frown, raise your eyebrows, squint and smile) for 1-2 hours after treatment.
Can I take ibuprofen?
It is not recommended. These medicines are anti-inflammatory and blood-thinning and may cause additional bruising around the injection sites. Instead try a pain medicine like Tylenol (acetaminophen). Tiny bumps and marks at the injection sites may appear post treatment but usually disappear within a few hours. If you do experience bruising, you can apply over-the-counter Arnica gel to speed healing.
How long do you need to wait until you can have a drink?
It is not recommended to drink alcohol for at least 24 hours after getting a botox injection. Alcohol thins your blood which may increase your chances of bruising, but it could also cause your skin to look dry and bloated.
Is it ok to lay down and sleep after?
You should avoid lying down for several hours following treatment. Putting pressure on the injection site may lead to altered results.
How long until I can touch my face?
You should wait at least six hours before touching or coming in contact with the injection site. If you need to apply make-up, use only a gentle touch and avoid rubbing injection areas.
How long until I can get a facial after botox?
Anything before the 14 day mark can lead to issues with the treatment, so it is recommended to wait two weeks post injection before doing any facials. It is also advised to avoid saunas immediately following treatment.
When can I get microneedling done?
Just like with facials, wait at least two weeks before getting microneedling and other procedures done.
Botox is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment, with more than 6 million Botox treatments administered each year. When administered correctly, Botox can significantly decrease the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It usually takes 3-14 days for full treatment effects to appear and on average, results last 3-4 months. Regular treatment is necessary to maintain results, optimally done just prior to Botox wearing off. As with all the treatments Revive Med Spa offers, if you have any concerns we encourage you to always check-in with your provider!
