Hydradermabrasion vs. Microdermabrasion: Is One Better?

Hydradermabrasion vs. Microdermabrasion Is One Better | Revive MedSpa In San Diego
If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then your skin is the mirror. Cortisol, aging, diet; they all show up on your skin. So how do we fight back against our own bodies? If you’re looking for clearer, softer, and more radiant skin then you’ve probably thought about microdermabrasion before but may have been hesitant because your skin is dry or dehydrated and not scarred or acne prone.  Luckily there is a new alternative to microdermabrasion treatments that is safe for all skin types, replenishes hydration and has many of the benefits of the traditional procedure.  This new option is called hydradermabrasion.  Of course, not one skin treatment is right for everyone so it’s important to understand which chemical procedure is best suited for your concerns. For example, if you suffer from dry skin then you may seek out a hydradermabrasion to provide your skin with a gentle and healthy lift. On the other hand, people with oily and acne prone skin may choose a microdermabrasion to exfoliate and clean their skin as this can be more effective.  The important thing is to know that you do have alternative options to treat your skin concerns and can start or continue to address them with a trusted esthetician. There are always questions that arise when receiving a new treatment and we have answered some of the most common ones below:

What are they?

A microdermabrasion is a fairly sophisticated procedure that uses microcrystals to clear out pores while exfoliating the top layer of skin. Microcrystals are distributed using a hand-held applicator that brushes over the skin and removes dead skin cells impurities. Microdermabrasions are effective in correcting skin tones and renewing a soft texture. The procedure is also commonly used for people who suffer from:
  • Wrinkles and lines
  • Blackheads
  • Acne and acne scars
  • Uneven skin tones
  • Sun damage
  • Discoloration
While it’s minimally invasive, the procedure does produce mild side effects, including redness. Hydradermabrasion is a softer and less invasive chemical procedure. The hydradermabrasion treatment is called a Diamondglow Treatment and uses a custom diamond-tip treatment to distribute moisture, peptides and serums to the skin to exfoliate and increase hydration. Side effects are rare, and results are seen immediately. As the name would imply, hydradermabrasion treatments are used to enhance hydration in individuals with dry and irritated skin but it is customizable and safe for all skin types. The Diamonglow also removes impurities from the pores through gentle suction while pumping nutrients and peptides into the skin.

What are the differences between microdermabrasion and hydradermabrasion?

Generally, a Diamondglow procedure and microdermabrasion can be used to treat most skin impurities. Both are great for exfoliation but can be used to target different skin concerns. Microdermabrasions may be more effective for people with deeper scarring and skin damage, while hydradermabrasions are used for more mild treatments. Depending on the individual, six to ten treatments of microdemabrasion is recommended every two to six weeks to achieve the best results. Hydrademabrasion is recommended every two to four weeks to maintain refreshed, glowing skin. Both of the treatments stimulate collagen while only the Diamondglow increases blood flow.

Which Should I Choose?

While Diamondglow treatments are new and exciting, Microdermabrasion is more effective at treating deeper scars and fine lines. They are also great for increasing elasticity and collagen in the skin. Due to the microdermabrasion being a more intense treatment it is important to apply sunscreen and avoid the sun while the skin is healing. Avoiding this step in the treatment may cause further damage to the skin. In comparison, Diamondglow Treatments are recommended for individuals who don’t have as severe skin concerns. This highly effective treatment uses medical-grade serums paired with a superior hydradermabrasion machine to gently glide over the skin throughout the treatment. The tips and serums allow for complete customization to meet a number of skin concerns. When choosing the right treatment for you, it is important to understand what concerns you are looking to address. It is best to see a knowledgeable and trusted esthetician to determine the best option for you.
