Kybella Double Chin Treatment in California

Introducing Kybella, the first FDA-approved, injectable drug used to reduce the appearance of submental fat, more commonly known as a double chin. This non-surgical cosmetic procedure makes it possible to ditch your double chin and achieve a tighter, more contoured look without incisions or downtime.

Submental fullness (Double Chin) can impact a broad range of adults, and is not limited to people who are overweight. This condition can impact men or women of average weight and can be caused by aging, genetics and weight gain. It is often resistant to diet and exercise alone.

When injected into subcutaneous fat, KYBELLA™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with KYBELLA™ is not expected.

FAQs

The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

You may need two to three total visits, spaced a month apart. Each treatment takes about 15 minutes.

Some people may get up to 50 injections in a single treatment, with several treatments no less than a month apart, the FDA says. Many people saw results in two to four treatments.

Kybella chin reduction is injected subcutaneously using an area-adjusted dose. One treatment can consist of up to 50 tiny injections. Because the procedure relies on the natural process of fat breakdown, several treatments may be needed once a month
Anyone over 18, in good health with moderate-to-severe submental fat can achieve the benefits of this aesthetic treatment.
Pain is always relative, but most patients report only mild discomfort at the beginning of the procedure that subsides as the treatment progresses. Most people find an over-the-counter pain reliever is adequate to relieve any discomfort post-procedure. During subsequent treatment sessions, the level of discomfort lessens with the majority of patients.
The appointment is 45 minutes to an hour in length. However, the actual procedure is very quick.
Most patients see noticeable results after 2-3 treatment sessions. The number of treatments required will depend on the amount of fat being eradicated.
Once your aesthetic goal has been reached, there is no need for further treatment. When Kybella kills those fat cells, they are gone for good!
Kybella recovery is usually quick and uneventful. At most, patients report some minor bruising and swelling that resolves within several days. Mild discomfort may be experienced at the injection sites but is easily treated with OTC pain relievers. Some patients jump right back into their routine while others prefer to lay low for a couple of days after the procedure.
Check with your physician if you are taking blood thinners before considering Kybella for double chin treatment. Caution should also be used if you’ve had prior surgery in the treatment area. If you have an active infection at the injection site, you must wait until it clears. Anyone who is pregnant or nursing is ineligible for the procedure. Those with a history of dysphagia (trouble swallowing) are not suitable candidates for Kybella.
Because of the location close to certain anatomic structures, there is a risk of tissue or nerve damage caused by the injections. This could cause facial muscle weakness or an off-balance smile. When the treatment is performed by a licensed professional, however, these risks are minimal.

Some of the side effects may include:

  • Headaches
  • Hair loss
  • Open sores
  • Nerve damage
  • Throat pain and trouble swallowing

You may also find, swelling, redness, bruises and numbness or pain, as well as itching, hardness and tightness around the injection area. If you notice any unusual feelings or side effects from treatment, contact a licensed medical professional immediately.
