WHAT ARE PDO THREADS?

PDO Threads are a minimally invasive treatment to help loose and sagging skin. They are absorbable surgical sutures composed of polydioxanone. These sutures have been used in cardiac surgeries for the past 60 years or more, and are the safest materials to be implanted in the body.

PDO Threads are fully absorbable! During the 4 to 6 months needed to fully absorb the PDO suture, your skin is also repairing itself around it. This process, called “controlled healing” creates new collagen naturally.

THE PDO THREAD PROCEDURE

During the treatment, a preloaded cannula is inserted into the skin. Your injector then leaves the thread beneath the skin when she removes the cannula. Your skin gently reacts to the threads and begins repairing itself around the suture. The threads can be expertly placed to stimulate collagen in areas of volume loss or to fill a fold, and also can be placed to pull and tighten the skin, such as that of the neck or brows. Over the next 4-6 months, your skin fully absorbs the threads. The threads will not leave behind scar tissue.

– Lip threads start at $350+

– Face or neck lifting and tightening starts at $1,200+

FAQs

The PDO Threads are made of a material called Polydioxanone (PDO). PDO has a safety track record in surgery and wound closure that is over a decade-long. PDO has been used for about 6 years in orthopedic surgery (frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and cosmetic skin rejuvenation). PDO gained FDA approval in 2004. Through collagen stimulation the PDO Threads can very effectively strengthen the contour of the face, reduce roundness, lift sagging skin in the cheeks, jowls, neck, enhance lips volume and also produce an excellent eyebrow lift.
It redefines facial contours and induces collagen production creating a temporary lifting effect that lasts for up to 18 months. Due to collagen synthesis the PDO Threads will form an integrated support structure for facial tissues. The stimulation effect reaches its peak 3 months later when collagen is formed around the threads.
There is an immediate improvement seen with a visible lift or glow in the areas treated. This will improve over a period of 1-2 months as new collagen grows between the threads and gives further lift and tightening to the skin. The PDO Threads gradually dissolve after about 4-6 months, but the resulting lift/skin tightening remains for another 6 to 12 months.
Treatment time depends on many factors and size of treatment area, but can take up to 50 minutes. There is very minimal downtime and no general anesthesia needed. The specialized cannula allow small areas to be tackled effectively. As there are no incisions, stitches are not required and scarring is unlikely.
Typical side effects include a chance of bruising and swelling. However, in most people, the bruising and swelling is minimal and resolve in less than a week. There is some post-op discomfort which usually resolves quickly in most patients. If the sutures, for some reason, become visible underneath the skin or migrate, it can be easily removed if necessary and new threads can be placed.
