“Nowadays, I lean towards spending a little bit more for quality products that have proven, clinical results. It’s never too early to start taking care of your skin!”
We asked Registered Nurse Shalane a few questions about her role at Revive and how she can help you achieve your desired look.
1) What is your education and/or specialties?
I started my nursing career as a nurse assistant and realized nursing was the career for me. I obtained my BSN and started my career in the operating room. I was a patient at a medical spa and had interest in the treatments. It was fascinating to me that RNs were able to be more creative and artistic. I feel so grateful that I finally know what I want to do when I grow up. I specialize in injectables (filler and neuromodulators) and laser treatments.
2) What is your favorite area to treat or procedure to do?
I enjoy doing laser hair removal treatments with the new Lutronic laser machine we have. Living in San Diego, it is so convenient to throw on shorts and a tank top and not worry about hair. This new machine covers lots of surface area in a short amount of time. It also doesn’t require any gel so it’s not messy and almost painless since it has a cooling cryogen. Laser hair removal was the very first treatment I did, and it was honestly the best investment. Shaving takes too much time and irritation isn’t fun. Stay ready, so you don’t have to get ready!
3) What are your favorite products and why?
I love pairing SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF serum with their Discoloration Defense Serum. Even in my 20’s I still struggle with hormonal acne that leaves post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and hyperpigmentation from sun damage. Combining the two products has totally evened out my skin tone. Phloretin CF is ideal to prevent cell damage and accelerates cell turn over. I use it as my preventative product. I’ll apply the Ploretin CF serum first then apply the Discoloration Defense. Discoloration Defense acts as my corrective product. It is hydroquinone free and has truly tackled the stubborn browns from UV damage. These two have totally evened out my skin tone and given my face a brighter appearance
4) What do you love about working at Revive?
I love the fact I get to go to the spa five days a week. I find joy building relationships with the patients. It’s a privilege to be involved in helping someone achieve a certain look. Everyone is different and tailoring the needs to each person is a challenge that I enjoy. I also love the store! It is absolutely beautiful and the work environment is filled with positivity, which highlights the overall experience.
5) What’s a fact most clients don’t know that you wish they did?
Typically, we all want a quick fix. But trusting the process is something I’ve learned. Treatments work synergistically with products. I’ve found that pairing facial lasers/ fillers and with the best products increase the efficacy of results.
6) What do you wish you would’ve known about skincare when you were younger?
I wish I paid more attention to the ingredients on products I used in the past. I’m a victim of cute packaging and skin care that didn’t have the proper components. Nowadays, I lean towards spending a little bit more for quality products that have proven, clinical results. It’s never too early to start taking care of your skin!
