PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma and is an extract of your own blood. It is nutrient-rich and contains three to five times more platelets, growth factors, and active proteins than your own blood. This “liquid gold” helps to strengthen and heal your tissue. PRP Microneedling (also known as the “Vampire Facial®”) or injections initiate a localized stem cell response. Over the weeks and months following treatment, this stem cell response recruits collagen-producing cells called fibroblasts. The fibroblasts replace tissue that has been damaged or lost through the aging process with healthy skin that looks refreshed and rejuvenated. PRP can be used as a cosmetic treatment for the following:

Reducing fine lines and wrinkles

Tightening and toning skin

Brightening uneven skin tone

Mild collagen and volume loss

Crow’s feet and dark under-eye circles

Large pores/rough texture

Acne scarring

Rosacea

Female and Male Pattern Hair Loss

The Process

Blood is extracted from the body and then placed in a special device called a centrifuge that spins the blood over the course of 10 minutes, removing any impurities. This process separates the red blood cells from the plasma. It is the plasma that contains the platelets and growth factors that some refer to as “liquid gold”.

Our PRP Treatments

There are 3 ways that we perform the PRP service, microneedling, injections, or hair restoration. What you should know is that this treatment essentially allows our skin to heal itself with the nutrient rich plasma that we already carry in our bodies. Platelets in our blood cells are designed to heal injuries. For years, doctors and reconstructive surgeons have been injecting PRP into joints to help speed up the process of healing. Now, the benefits are being applied in medical aesthetics. The results are a thicker dermis, softer wrinkles, less scarring and tighter skin.

Microneedling with PRP

Microneedling is a process in which hundreds of tiny injections are made using a handheld “pen”. The plasma is directly placed on the skin and then the micro needling treatment begins. This treatment is performed by gliding the pen over the surface of the skin. While the pen is creating tiny injection points, the plasma is able to enter the skin at a deeper level allowing it to boost collagen and elastin growth.

Injections with PRP

The second way to treat with PRP is with injections, a very similar process to receiving fillers. The plasma is directly inserted into a syringe allowing your provider to inject under the skin’s surface for a more centralized treatment. This process is typically used for under eye treatments to reduce dark circles and specific areas on the body and face.

Hair Restoration with PRP

The third way to utilize PRP is through hair restoration injections. After separating the concentrated plasma, it is directly inserted into a syringe allowing your provider to inject the PRP into desired areas on the scalp, to stimulate hair follicles for healthy growth.

PRP use can be especially helpful as a non-surgical solution to reverse Female and Male Pattern Hair Loss.

FAQs

When receiving the PRP treatment, results can last up to 18 months. However, we recommend touch-up treatments every year.
On average, PRP hair treatments last 18 months. Patients will continue to benefit from maintenance treatments. Maintenance treatments are recommended 3 to 4 times per year. Outcomes may vary – depending on hairless, genetics and age.
Your medical professional can create a treatment plan based on your individual needs. Some patients only require a single treatment, once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 4-6 week intervals.
While the initial treatments may be spread out more than a month apart, best results are seen when the treatments are 1 month apart for the initial 3-4 treatments.
Many clients are candidates for PRP Injections. It is best to schedule a complimentary consultation to determine which treatment is the best for you.
Women and men who have experienced thinning and shedding of hair may be a candidate, though a complimentary consultation with one of our providers is required to determine if this treatment is right for you.
The blood draw takes just a couple of minutes, followed immediately by a 10-minute centrifugation. The time involved in the application varies based on which procedure is being performed.
Since the autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is produced from a patient’s own blood, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction or rejection.
It is common to experience some mild soreness and pressure at the injections site, but a spray that provides an anesthetic to the area of treatment is used to ease any discomfort.
Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total healing time depends on the depth of needles used and the number of overlapping passes your skincare professional performs. On average, patients are red up to 2 to 4 days. Some patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours.
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.
