What is PRP & What are the Benefits?

You may have heard of PRP treatments by now, particularly PRP with Microneedling better known as the “vampire facial”. If you’re not familiar, this is the cosmetic treatment that the Kardashians and other celebrities have touted in recent years. PRP can be injected into the skin or applied during a Microneedling treatment. Let’s dive into what PRP is and why we can’t stop raving about it!

What is PRP?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma and is naturally produced in our blood. This plasma is what really makes this treatment stand out. During your appointment, your provider will take a syringe of your blood and put it in a machine that spins the blood for about 10 minutes. This process separates the blood from the plasma or as we like to call it “liquid gold.”

The liquid gold is then placed on the surface of the skin during a micro-needling treatment or injected under the skin just like a filler when treating under the eyes or other areas on the face. The PRP that is now entering beneath the skin is stimulating skin healing, collagen production, and many more important proteins that encourage healthy, bright skin.

The Benefits of PRP

There are many benefits to PRP treatments. First, when treated with Microneedling, it essentially enhances the Microneedling treatment by reducing fine lines and wrinkles, tightens and brightens the skin and encourages collagen reproduction. Even during the following weeks and months after your treatment, you will notice that the treatment will continue to work.

Another treatment that we use with PRP is under eye injections.  This is a popular treatment for treating hollow or dark under eyes. When injected in the under eye area, the PRP initiates a local stem cell response resulting in less hollowness and a brighter appearance.

PRP can be used as a cosmetic treatment for the following:

  • Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Tightening and toning skin
  • Brightening uneven skin tone
  • Mild collagen and volume loss
  • Crow’s feet and dark under eye circles
  • Acne scarring
  • Rosacea

If you are looking to treat your skin from the inside out with your own nutrient rich plasma, then PRP treatments could be your answer. This process is designed to repair and heal injuries and has been used in medical procedures for years. PRP treatments can help transform your skin and leave you feeling and looking more refreshed than ever!
