IPL Treatments – Are They Worth It?

IPL Treatments - Are They Worth It?

Do you have sun damage, fine lines or discoloration in your skin? Do you want to turn back the clock on your skin’s health and appearance?

If you answered yes to either of those questions, then keep reading to learn about your new favorite treatment.

The IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment has been causing a stir in the skincare community. These treatments consist of a broadband light being repeatedly flashed onto the skin targeting the contrast of damage versus your natural skin tone. The heat is absorbed by the skin which then causes the reproduction of collagen revealing fresh, bright skin.

Why IPL?

Being in California, we are always at the beach, hiking or hanging out for brunch on the weekends. If we haven’t said it enough, sunscreen is your best friend! If you are like me and didn’t know the importance of sunscreen every day at a young age, you may be suffering from discoloration, fine lines or other concerns like myself which is why I chose to learn more about IPL treatments.

The IPL Treatment

The first thing to note about IPL is that it targets so many concerns which include: fine wrinkles, age spots, small facial veins (telangiectasia), rosacea, redness and flushing, solar lentigines (freckles), cafe’ au lait maculae, brown spots, birthmarks, port wine stains, red spots, enlarged pores, poikiloderma, burn erythema, hyperpigmentation.

Personally, years of sun exposure started to cause some dark spots on my face and my freckles were darkening over the years. This is where IPL at Revive comes in. I started with receiving two treatments three months apart (you can get them as little as 6 weeks apart). The treatments were quick, easy and my providers made me feel so comfortable and excited for my results.

IPL Aftercare

The treatment was overall very tolerable with minimal pain in the more sensitive areas. Following the procedure, my face was red, slightly warm and felt like a fresh sunburn – this lasted about 45 minutes. After that, the recovery was smooth sailing!

The next day I noticed some dark spots which is the pigment coming to the surface of my skin. I made sure to avoid sun exposure for the next two weeks as the dark spots gradually sloughed off my face, revealing fresh, soft skin. I also made sure to use the proper serums to aid in my treatment results. Lytera 2.0 by SkinMedica is an amazing partner for IPL treatments.

Overall, the treatment was fairly easy for me and I noticed an improvement  in my  skin tone and texture after the first few days!  Here is a little recap so you can be prepared for your treatment:

IPL Recap

Before making an appointment, set up a complimentary consultation so you can discuss with your provider the best treatment options for you. Revive also offers other treatments that you can use in between IPL such as lasers and peels that can aid in your results. Be sure that you are taking good care of your skin beforehand as well – causing new damage may make your treatment uncomfortable. My personal recovery time was painless and fairly quick. Every patient is different and you may see that skin is still improving from the IPL for up to two weeks. Don’t forget to prolong your results with your favorite serums from Revive!
