Slimming Down with CoolSculpting vs Other Fat Reduction Methods

Does it feel like you’ve tried just about everything when it comes to slimming down for summer? For many beauty-conscious individuals, achieving that beach-ready body can be challenging. When the traditional weight loss methods consisting of strict diets and aggressive workout routines fail to help you achieve your ideal result, it’s time to turn to other fat reduction methods to get rid of those final stubborn pounds.

CoolSculpting is an innovative way to contour your body by freezing unwanted fat away with zero surgery or downtime. The CoolSculpting procedure safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are crystallized and frozen, then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you.

How do you know if CoolSculpting is best fat reduction and body contouring method for you? We compare CoolSculpting to other methods of getting rid of unwanted fat. Here’s the skinny on which methods to use when slimming down for summer:

CoolSculpting vs Vanquish

Although CoolSculpting and Vanquish ME deliver fantastic results, they are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Vanquish and CoolSculpting are not meant for large-volume fat reduction and are best suited for those who are looking to contour by shedding a minimal amount of fat.

How are CoolSculpting and Vanquish different?

  • While Vanquish and CoolSculpting both work by temperature extremes, the desired result is achieved in opposing ways. CoolSculpting destroys fat cells by freezing (cryolipolysis). On the contrary, Vanquish utilizes radio frequency technology to heat and reduce fat.
  • With CoolSculpting, the applicator comes in direct contact with the skin. With Vanquish, the patient lies under the device while the sensors read your body fat to determine the energy level needed.
  • CoolSculpting and Vanquish also differ by treatment area size. Vanquish treats larger areas and therefore can shave time off the length of the procedure. CoolSculpting covers less surface area which allows specific problem areas to be focused on.
  • Since Vanquish uses radio frequency heat to destroy fat, patients with metal in their bodies between their neck and knees are not candidates. This includes patients with copper IUDs, metal knee and knee replacements and pacemakers. Additionally, women who are lactating are not candidates for Vanquish.

CoolSculpting vs SculpSure

CoolSculpting and SculpSure use a similar principle of changing the temperature of fat cells in order to permanently destroy the cells. Similar to Vanquish ME, SculpSure takes an opposite approach by heating fat cells to contour body fat.

How are CoolSculpting and Sculpsure different?

  • Like Vanquish, SculpSure uses heat to destroy unwanted fat cells.
  • CoolSculpting technology was approved by the FDA in 2010 and has proven, effective results and can be used for harder to reach areas like the neck, chin, arm fat, back rolls, inner thighs, and bra line. Up until recently, SculpSure was not approved by the FDA for facial contouring.
  • The treatment time for SculpSure is 25 minutes per area, approximately half that of CoolSculpting (60 minutes per area). However, thanks to DualSculpting, you can have two treatments done at once, cutting your appointment time in half!
  • No direct sun exposure allowed for a week before and after Sculpsure treatment, as it might cause sunburn.

CoolSculpting vs Liposuction

You’ve likely already heard about liposuction, a one time treatment that slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits. While the permanent results of CoolSculpting and Liposuction are similar, the process in achieving the desired results are drastically different.

How are CoolSculpting and Sculpsure different?

  • CoolSculpting is non-invasive and is done as an outpatient procedure. Each session takes about an hour, and you may need a few sessions spread out a few weeks apart. Liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure that involves cutting, stitching, and anesthetizing. The surgery generally requires the patient to be sedated with general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision and uses a long, narrow suction tool called a cannula to vacuum fat out of a specific area of your body. The surgery takes 1 to 2 hours and the patient can generally go home the same day.
  • There is no recovery time for a CoolSculpting procedure. Recovery for liposuction can take 3-5 days.
  • Liposuction typically only requires one session while CoolSculpting generally requires a few sessions spread out over several weeks to achieve the best results.
  • Average cost of CoolSculpting is $2,000-$4,000. Because it’s a surgical procedure, liposuction can sometimes be a slightly more expensive. While the cost also varies, the average cost for a liposuction procedure in 2016 was $3,200.
  • You’ll begin to see results from CoolSculpting after a few weeks. Because of the nature of liposuctions surgical procedure, swelling can persist and full results from liposuction may not be noticeable for a few months.
  • Expected results of CoolSculpting include up to 25% elimination of fat cells in a certain area. Liposuction can remove much more fat, up to 11 pounds, from the targeted area.
